In Chinese and English, a 216-page export catalogue of American products for the Shanghai market. Handwritten note on the last page: ‘first copy off the press’. Arkell & Douglas, a New York- based exporter, began by transporting miners and their equipment to Australia during the gold rush. The company subsequently opened offices in Africa, South America, and Asia. Among American exporters, the company is credited with offering the widest range of products. This catalogue features everything from steel beams to farm equipment to decorative glass.
