November twenty-six, nineteen hundred sixty-three, poem

By Wendell Berry. New York: G. Braziller, [1964].

Wendell Berry'’s poem, titled to signify the day after President John F. Kennedy, Jr. was laid to rest, was first published in the magazine “The Nation” in 1964. It profoundly inspired the distinguished artist and photographer Ben Shahn, who said, “"When I read the poem, I wanted it preserved, read, not lost in the pages of a last week'’s magazine."”

The sentiment of the poem and imagery symbolizes and echoes what a nation felt and struggled with in the aftermath of the death of a very popular president. AAPG’'s limited edition tribute is signed by both Berry and Shahn.
