Wine, women, and song

Wine, women, and song; mediaeval Latin students' songs now first translated into English verse with an essay

By John Addington Symonds. London: Chatto & Windus, 1884.

A moiré silk-lined wood box with metal clasp was created to encase this elaborately ornamented volume bound by the English firm of Sangorski & Sutcliffe around 1900. This case and the binding that features Moroccan gold stipple and tool binding with amethyst gems is a rare and early example of the fine craftsmanship of the firm.

Condition and Treatment:

Fine binding housed in custom box. Volume in good condition. Original box broken, loose in several places. Conservators will reattach velvet box centerpiece with PVA, reattach sides of wooden exterior to base, and fill surface losses.
